2015 Cultural Season of Al Owais Cultural Foundation opens with “Tuqoos Al Abyad”

DUBAI: The Sultan bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation will host a theatrical performance under the title of “Tuqoos Al Abyad” (Al Abyad Rituals) today (Tuesday) in the theater of the foundation in Dubai, to mark the beginning of its cultural season for 2015 .

“Tuqoos Al Abyad”, considered one of the most prominent theatrical performances staged by the Sharjah National Theatre during the latest edition of the Sharjah Theatre Days Festival, has gained wide acclaim. The festival’s award for “Best Theatrical Role” went to actress Malak Al Khaldi for her role in the play.

The play is written by Mahmoud Abou Al Abbas, directed by Mohamed Al Ameri and stars Malak Al Khaldi, Mahmoud Abou Al Abbas, Hameed Sambeej, Ashjan, Mohamed Jumaa, Rania Al Ali, Haifaa and Mohamed Bin Ya’roof.

The performance tackles the dialectics of life and death through a couple consisting of a gravedigger and a midwife, around which the plot revolves. The two characters meet every day after a long day of work, where the wife who works as a midwife ushers newborn babies into the world, while her husband the gravedigger bids farewell to the deceased, and talk about the cycle of life and death.

The play will represent the United Arab Emirates at the upcoming Arab Theatre Festival, which will be held in Morocco from 10th to 17th January.
