8 dead, nearly 100 missing in Indonesian landslide

JAKARTA: A landslide triggered by torrential downpours has killed at least 8 people and left nearly 100 others missing in Indonesia’s main island of Java, an official said on Saturday.

Spokesman of the National Agency for Disaster Management of Indonesia said, that hundreds of rescuers were digging through mud and rubble after the landslide buried scores of houses in Jemblung village in central Java late Friday.

He added,”We are searching for over 100 missing persons.”
