Abdullah bin Zayed, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister emphasise depth of bilateral ties – UPDATED

Abu Dhabi: H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, has lauded the close ties between the UAE and Kuwait under the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Sheikh Abdullah made his comments while addressing the concluding session of the 3rd meeting of the UAE-Kuwait Joint Higher Committee at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in attendance.

In his address, HH said, ”The meeting of the committee again reflects the spirit of brotherhood and the historic ties that link the brotherly peoples. It also shows that the extent of care and keenness of the two countries to bolster these relations in consistent with aspirations of the higher leaderships in both countries. The meeting of the committee also provided a fitting opportunity for communication, deepening understanding, reviewing achievements made and planning for new prospects for joint cooperation and stronger bilateral ties.” Sheikh Abdullah indicated that the meeting, itself, offered testimony to the success the joint committees had made in their previous meetings and emphasised the keen interest of the two countries to cement their ties in various fields, notably economic, investment, youth, sports and education.

”The meeting was also convened within the framework of the GCC joint action, to which we in the UAE are firmly committed to supporting it in all areas. In this context, we commend the pivotal role of Amir of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in advancing GCC joint action,” he added.

Sheikh Abdullah noted that the Middle East was experiencing extremely unprecedented circumstances and the increasing challenges and risks it is witnessing impose heavy responsibilities to exert more efforts and intensify consultations to review and assess measures taken earlier, and explore future prospects to chart the courses ahead that ensure the development of the GCC and Arab joint action to provide for the ambitions and aspirations of the people to live safe, secure and prosperous lives.

He further indicated that two-way trade exchange reached US$ 3.8 billion in 2013, an indicator of the vibrant trade relations between the two countries.

Concluding his statement, Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of continuing the work of the committee and follow-up implementation of its recommendations. He thanked the heads and members of the preparatory committees for the sincere efforts they made, which contributed to the success the committee s work.
