Amal Al Qubaisi becomes a role model for all young women: paper

ABU DHABI, 20th November, 2015 (WAM) — The election of Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi as Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) is a milestone as the entire nation is able to celebrate a woman reaching such a significant position in the country’s public life, commented a UAE daily.
Dr. Amal is now a major role model for tens of thousands of young Emirati women who know that they can aspire to a public office at the highest level and that there should be no limit on their ambition.
This inspiration was recognised by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, when he delivered the opening address on behalf of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and hailed Dr. Amal’s “historic achievement”, later adding that “Emirati women have been great leaders and achievers, establishing a significant global and regional presence for themselves.”
Shaikh Mohammad put Dr. Amal’s success in the context of the FNC’s mission to serve the country and for the incoming members to commit to their duty to serve their community and their nation. He said that the FNC’s new session coincides with challenging circumstances in which the UAE has become stronger with more coherence between its people and the leadership.
Shaikh Mohammad hailed the sense of patriotism and loyalty to the country amid the ongoing situation in the region and he praised the courage and sacrifice of the UAE martyrs.
“The social significance of Dr. Amal taking such a high office is that she will inspire hundreds of thousands of young women who may still hesitate to take the plunge into public life as they grapple with family pressure and private doubts,” the Gulf News wrote in its today’s editorial.
“But if the UAE is to reach its full potential, it has to have the active participation of the entire population, involving both men and women, in the entire range of public life and the workforce,” the paper said, adding, “Every Emirati has an important role to play- both men and women.”
