Amal Al Qubaisi visits Al Oula Kindergarten to pay her respects on death of American teacher

ABU DHABI: Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Education Council, visited on Sunday Al Oula Kindergarten in Al Shwamekh district in Baniyas, where the slain American teacher, Ibolya Ryan, killed in the Al Reem Island, worked, to offer her condolences to the school administration and teaching staff.

Al Qubaisi was keen to be the first to visit the school on the first school day following the incident, to pay respect to the colleagues of the deceased. She also expressed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Al Qubaisi stressed that all the employees of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, whether Emirati and expatriate teachers and administrators, are one family in bliss and woe, noting that the council is keen to remove any obstacles faced by the teachers to enable them to discharge their noble duties.

“I share in the sorrow and suffering that you experienced following the death of the distinguished and sincere teacher who had committed no sin. I extend to you my condolences and consolation of all the employees of the council who also share the deep pain with you,” she said, noting that all those working in the educational field are members of one family.

Al Qubaisi said that the council spared no effort to inculcate the team and educational family spirit, and would provide the necessary support to the victim’s family to vercome this ordeal.

She commended the continuing care enjoyed by all employees in the education sector in Abu Dhabi, from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Education Council.

Al Qubaisi underlined the keenness of the UAE leadership to keep the UAE a model for security, peace and hub for the welfare of the citizens, expatriates and visitors as well.

She reiterated that the incident was an individual act by someone with a mental disease, describing the crime as an alien to the UAE community known for its desire to spread the principles of love and tolerance. “Despite its cruelty, the incident showed very clearly the positive side in the UAE society in terms of solidarity, cohesion and teamwork when facing challenges and adversities, as well as constant vigilance and readiness of the security forces to ward off risks and threats with a unique speed.” Al Qubaisi praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters led by H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, in tracking down the accused, adding that Sheikh Saif himself followed up the incident and contacted the family of the deceased. He pledged to take care of the children of the slain teacher.

On their part, the teachers of Al Oula Kindergarten commended the gesture of Al Qubaisi and her consolation to them. They added that the painful incident was an isolated case that could happen anywhere.
