DEWA contributes AED5 million to U.A.E. Suqia

DUBAI: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has donated AED5 million to the U.A.E. Suqia campaign launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to provide clean drinking water to five million people in impoverished countries facing water scarcity.

DEWA s direct contribution will help provide clean water to over 200,000 people in a number of countries.

“The U.A.E. Water Aid campaign launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, highlights the commitment of the U.A.E. leadership to carrying out humanitarian work around the world, and establish the nation as taking the lead in supporting such work, to continue the philanthropy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

The challenge of providing clean drinking water is becoming acute in several countries, and threatening the lives of millions of people. The World Health Organisation estimates that over 3.4 million people die every year from diseases associated with a lack of safe drinking water.
