DEWA hosts 8th mass wedding for 37 couples

DUBAI, 26th February, 2015 (WAM) — Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, hosted its 8th mass wedding, known as Anwar Dubai, Dubai Lights for its staff.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of and in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and President of DEWA.

The move is a part of DEWA’s commitment to support its staff by giving them peace of mind and a good start in life. 37 couples were married in a joyous and happy atmosphere at Zabeel Park in Dubai. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was received by DEWA’s Board members and Saeed Mohammed AL Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

The ceremony was also attended by Mattar Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of DEWA, Saeed Al Kindi, Mohammed Khalifa Al Habtoor, Lt. General Mohammed Abdul Rahim Al Ali, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Majid Hamad Al Shamsi, Hilal Khalfan bin Dhaher, Qassim Sultan, Essa Al Maidoor, Director General of Dubai Health Authority, Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties, Ali bin Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of the Supervisory Bureau for Electricity and Water in Dubai, Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), Salem Almoosa, DEWA staff, and a large number of guests.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Al Tayer thanked Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum for attending the mass wedding.

This enhances solidarity and family cohesion, which helps to achieve the goals of the UAE Vision 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021, which both put its people as the first priority,” said Al Tayer.

“Mass weddings have become a national tradition, with the numbers increasing each year. DEWA is following the same path. During the past eight years, a total of 323 couples have tied the knot at DEWA’s mass weddings. That’s why DEWA has been hosting the mass wedding for our staff for the 8th consecutive year with a generous gift from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA, who has blessed DEWA’s efforts with his presence and gifts. Our staff look forward to participating in the mass wedding, which we have named Anwar Dubai. Each year, our Emirati male and female staff participate in the mass wedding and start their new lives and form new Emirati families that look forward to a joyous and prosperous future.
