DEWA marks World Environment Day 2014

DUBAI: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has organised a series of environmental activities at its Sustainable Building in Al Quoz to mark World Environment Day 2014, which the UN celebrates on June 5th each year.

This is part of DEWA s Corporate Social Responsibility and its efforts to support national and global initiatives that raise environmental awareness and conservation.

A key global initiative by the United Nations Environment Programme, UNEP, World Environment Day is dedicated this year to raising awareness and understanding about rising sea levels as a result of climate change. The theme of this year s WED is, Raise your voice, not the sea level. It aims to help protect the Planet Earth from the growing risks of rising sea levels.

World Environment Day is consistent in objectives and content with the U.A.E. leadership s vision for national environmental protection and conserving natural resources, and positions the nation on the global map in relation to environmental action.

“DEWA is committed to implementing the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative announced by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, through various activities that promote environmental sustainability. Our participation in World Environment Day highlights our vision to become a sustainable World-Class Utility,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
