DEWA organises Contractors and Consultants’ Creativity Lab

DUBAI: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, has organised the Contractors and Consultants’ Creativity Lab, which was attended by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, DEWA staff, and its consultants and contractors.

The event was organised to enhance the leadership and competitiveness of the UAE, particularly Dubai, on a global level, achieve the prosperity and welfare of its citizens and residents, improve their standards of living, and develop their capabilities.

The Contractors and Consultants’ Creativity Lab exchanged viewpoints with DEWA’s consultants and contractors, discussed ways to enhance mutual collaboration, and informed them about DEWA’s initiatives, services, and applications. It also listened to their feedback and suggestions for continuous improvement, and received insights and recommendations to improve ways to get electricity and water services according to the best international practices to enhance the excellence of all operations for partners and stakeholders.

“DEWA has organised the Contractors’ and Consultants’ Creativity Lab, which we have organised to support the vision and directives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and in support of the National Innovation Strategy to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world. The latest announcement by the Cabinet to mark 2015 as the Year of Innovation is a new step in the UAE’s ongoing development,” said Al Tayer.

“In line with the directives of His Highness, we work to improve government services and reach number one at all levels. His Highness once said that, ‘We always seek to be number one. In the UAE and Dubai, we are number one in terms of investment, security, quality of stable life, economic and social progress and infrastructure.’ To enhance the leadership and competitiveness of the UAE, particularly Dubai, at the global level, and to achieve the prosperity and welfare of the citizens and residents of this generous land, improve their standards of living and develop their capabilities, DEWA has made many achievements.”

One such achievement by the UAE, represented by DEWA for the second consecutive year, is our nation being ranked fourth globally and first in the Middle East and North Africa for getting electricity as per the World Bank’s Doing Business 2015 report. However, at DEWA, we want to take first place globally. We want to enhance the global competitiveness of the UAE, and keep up with best international practices to develop innovation, technology, and leadership. To achieve this, we look forward to working together by exchanging views and discussing mutual collaboration.

We want to hear your suggestions and feedback for continuous improvement, and to get creative and innovative ideas that in turn will help us provide more creative and innovative services.” Al Tayer noted that DEWA introduced the Creativity Lab experience at its Strategy 2014-2018 Workshop. Work teams discussed opportunities for improvement, and the development of creative solutions in a brainstorming session based on the results of a campaign DEWA launched on social media to communicate with all its partners and stakeholders, and share their ideas to establish excellence and implement its strategic programmes and initiatives.

One of the key results of the Creativity Lab was establishing the Research and Development Centre and assigning a budget of AED150 million to provide innovative solutions for DEWA, improve our operations, and implement the latest technologies to advance research and development.
