DM launches stage 2 of safe food transportation campaign

DUBAI: Dubai Municipality has started the second stage of its awareness campaign regarding the safe transportation of food in the Emirate of Dubai.

Khalid Mohammed Sherif, Director of the Food Control Department at Dubai Municipality, said the move comes as part of the civic body s keenness to ensure safe and healthy food trade and transportation in Dubai in line with the best international practices and standards.

The campaign is aimed at educating food traders on the basic requirements for food transportation vehicles, as stipulated by the food control department, as many violations have been noticed in recent times.

The Municipality issued a hygiene requirements guide for food transport vehicles, and it has approved more than 9,000 vehicles for food distribution in Dubai.

Transport vehicles are classified into several categories according to the types of foodstuff that are carried, such as dry, refrigerated, frozen or hot food, with the allocation of different coloured identifying stickers.

According to Dubai Municipality, inspectors in the Food Control Department will regularly check up on all vehicles and the types of food they transport.
