DoT in Abu Dhabi Honored with “Best m-Government Service Award” for its “Darb” Application in the Transportation and Infrastructure Category

ABU DHABI, 11th February 2015 (WAM) – The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced that it was honored today for its smart application “Darb”, which won the “Best m-Government Service Award” in the transportation and infrastructure category, during the Government Summit 2015.

Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, the Chairman of DoT, received the award from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, at the honoring ceremony held today in the Government Summit.

This excellence award serves as a proof to the DoT’s interest and involvement in the important role of information systems technology towards realizing the optimal management of traffic and transport networks in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This management contributes to the facilitation of movement for road users and public transportation in addition to its role in improving traffic safety standards. “Darb” smart app, which was launched in March 2014, is one of the most the most important outcomes of the smart transport systems strategy in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The DoT’s smart application “Darb” provides the public with basic interactive maps, showing public transport routes and timetables within a fast and user-friendly experience. Furthermore, the smart app provides the public with live road conditions, covering construction works, traffic detours and accidents and congested roads.

Moreover, the smart application provides various important services related to airports, such as the location of airport halls and flight schedules. It also informs the public about parking lots and enables them to pay for Mawaqif services online. Among the distinctive services of “Darb”, Book a Taxi feature allows the app users to book a taxi and set their pick-up location and destination directly from the smartphone.
