DUBAI: Dubai First, one of the UAE’s leading consumer finance companies and part of the FGB Group, has announced the participation of over 1,200 students during its ‘Buckle-Up’ workshops, which are designed to raise awareness of child road safety.
The focused workshops, held as part of the company’s ‘Little Steps for Safety’ corporate social responsibility programme, are supervised by Dubai First volunteers and conducted in both Arabic and English. The programme has been running successfully since 2008, and has instilled a sense of road safety awareness amongst over 10,000 children through direct interaction and the support of Dubai First’s official road safety mascots, Sami the Safety Scout and his friend Alisha.
On November 24th, 2014, Dubai First’s Safety Scouts Sami and Alisha visited the Dubai Dolphinarium, where children from Al Ittihad Private School, Al Resalah School of Science, Brilliant International Pvt. School, Russian International School and Uptown School attended an ‘edu-tainment’ session about road and traffic safety.
This was followed by another ‘Buckle-Up’ workshop conducted at Al Bahar School, Fujairah, for 576 students from grades 1 to 5. During the 3-hour session, the children were educated through entertaining activities about the significance of wearing a seatbelt in the car and other safety practices on the road. The workshops concluded with the students taking an oath to always wear a seatbelt and to ensure that everyone else in the car wears one as well.
To help facilitate the learning process, the students were provided with an activity book on road safety designed specifically to educate them while having fun through multiple exercises and games.
Headmistress of Al Bahar School, Amna Zayed, commented on the event, “The management of Al Bahar School would like to thank the Dubai First team for conducting the road-safety campaign for our students. We appreciate the initiative and the efforts to make it a successful campaign.” Amit Talgeri, CEO of Dubai First, said, “Traffic accidents are statistically found to be the leading cause of death for children under 14. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. We hope that Dubai First’s renewed efforts to instill the discipline of wearing a seat belt from a young age will make a big, long term impact on enhancing children’s safety.” As the first full-fledged child road safety campaign to be launched in the UAE by a financial services company, ‘Little Steps for Safety’ has been actively supported by the Roads and Transport Authority, Knowledge and Human Development Authority and Dubai Police.
