Dubai World Cup gets underway

Dubai: Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, attended this evening the opening ceremony of the 19th Dubai World Cup at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.

With a combined prize purse of US$27.25m, Dubai World Cup day is the richest day of racing in the world. The event features nine races, highlighted by the $10m Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates Airline.

The Dubai World Cup brings to an end the three-month long Dubai World Cup Carnival, a festival of high-class international racing.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, announced the launch of the world’s richest race in attendance of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, H.H. Lt General Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Advisor to the UAE President, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Emirates Group, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Land Department, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Saudi Minister of the National Guard, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister for Cabinet Affairs, a number of top officials, dignitaries and VIP guests and more than 80,000 fans.
