Emirates Green Building Council launches Energy Efficiency Programme to strengthen industry engagement

DUBAI: The Emirates Green Building Council, EmiratesGBC, an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, has announced the launch of the EmiratesGBC Energy Efficiency Programme, EEP, to act as a bridge between industry experts for their participation in future energy efficiency projects.

The programme will consist of a database that serves as a catalyst for all interested players, including energy efficiency equipment manufacturers and vendors, contractors, facility managers, banks and financiers, insurance companies and energy service companies, ESCOs, to assist in facilitating their industry requirements related to energy efficiency by directing their needs to other players.

Through the EEP, EmiratesGBC will act as an intermediary until the launch of the online database platform, providing members with a full list of contacts upon receipt of a request form for any energy efficiency related service. The online feature will be completed in 2015 and will provide EmiratesGBC members with instant access to the Energy Efficiency Database. In addition, it will further streamline information gathering, processing and sharing with the energy efficiency industry.

Saeed Al Abbar, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, commented at the launch, “EmiratesGBC has set as one of its priority areas the promotion of the energy efficiency industry, which is in line with the ‘green economy for sustainable development’ vision announced by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The programme highlights our commitment to raising awareness of the importance of green buildings and energy efficiency and also in promoting positive action.

The database will serve as a referral point for all energy-efficiency projects, enabling the stakeholders to identify the opportunities in the market.” Khaled Bushnaq, Vice Chairman of EmiratesGBC, added, “While fast-growing, the growing energy efficiency market is fragmented. At EmiratesGBC, we understand the challenges for our stakeholders when it comes to identifying the right partners for an energy efficiency project. This database will provide a common platform for everyone involved in the business, facilitating access to other services and players and providing an enhanced overall experience.”
