Emirates Human Rights Association welcomes setting up of UAE Gender Balance Council

DUBAI, 11th February, 2015 (WAM)–Emirates Human Rights Association (EHRA) has hailed the formation of the UAE Gender Balance Council by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, under chairwomanship of President of Dubai Women Establishment, H.H. Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The EHRA said that the decision is one of the most important resolutions taken by the UAE so far to consolidate the position of woman and remove gender differences so as to open wider and new horizons for Emirati women.

Mohammed Salem Al Ka’abi, Chairman of EHRA, said the formation of the Council “is the first of its kind in this respect. The resolution puts the UAE in the forefront of world countries that respect human rights, international conventions and treaties stated in The UN declaration of Human Rights, and The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).” He underscored that the UAE has been well ahead when it comes to the women empowerment in line with the legacy of late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, being followed up by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
