Environment and Water prohibits the import of birds from Canada

DUBAI: Dr. Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, issued a ministerial decision banning temporality all live domestic, wild and ornamental birds including their products, and wastes from Canada until the health situation regarding highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) becomes clear.

The decision excluded heat treated poultry meat in accordance to the provision of the ministerial resolution No. (9) for the year 2012. The decision was adopted upon the published reports by OIE announcing that HPAI outbreaks have occurred in Canada.

The Ministry of Environment and Water is a member of international organisations that is related to animal health, and continuously monitors the reports of alteration published by these organisations on the epidemiological status of the world.

This also falls in line with the ministry’s objective to achieve its strategic goals especially, prevention from plant, pests and animals diseases in addition to the protection of the public health and safety of consumers.
