ABU DHABI: Teams from the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), continues to distribute humanitarian to refugees in Iraq’s Kurdistan region internally as part of its campaign targeting 600,000 people amid plummeting temperatures and wintry conditions.
ERC’s teams had access to Heran, Khleifan, and Soran, the mountainous areas north of Erbil close to the Iranian-Turkish border, to give out shelter, food and warm clothes to the displaced.
Humaid Rashid Al Shamsi, ERC’s Deputy Secretary-General for International Aid, said the agency is observing the humanitarian situation in the targeted areas seeing by a growing flow of refugees fleeing the events in Iraq.
Iraq, he noted, is a top priority for ERC as the country is also seeing increasing numbers of refugees from Syria.
He said that ERC’s Iraq emergency relief operation also prioritises children, the most vulnerable victims in these exceptional circumstances.
