From sands to land of golden opportunitiesFrom sands to land of golden opportunities

Sharjah: In just over four decades, the United Arab Emirates has emerged from the sands of a desert into a golden land of opportunities for millions of people from across the globe, a local daily newspaper opined today ”Undeterred by an unsparing geography and an equally heartless sun a set of charismatic leaders, headed by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, decided to entirely revolutionise what they were born into. Their landscape was arid, not will. And of that invincible will was created the United Arab Emirates, The Gulf Today said in its daily comment.

”Winters are always a pleasure here and real pleasure it was. On December 2, 1971, the fabric of liberty and lavish life began to be woven. It hasn’t only thickened since. It has spread too. Conviction never tires. It is a nation immersed in joy. And for absolutely valid reasons,” it added.

”When such a dynamic country marks its 43rd National Day, there is little wonder that the delight is reflected on the faces of one and all, cutting across all sections, Emiratis and expatriates, men and women from the East or the West. After all, the country is second home to over 200 nationalities.” ”At a time when many countries in the Middle East region are victims of turmoil, the UAE has remained an oasis of peace. It was the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who planted the seeds of peace and progress for the nation,” it noted.

”President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has carried forward the process of growth with true conviction. One of the secrets of success of the country has been the leadership’s foresight. This is clearly reflected from the call of Sheikh Khalifa for more efforts to take care of the children of the nation – the men of the future – by building national specialised capacities, empowering outstanding competencies, and opening up more channels of communication with young generations. The success story is reflecting across a spectrum.”

”The State has been ranked among the ‘’high human development” category in the United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Index and leads the Arab Region in many international prominent indices including innovation, quality of life, and the ease of doing business. Globally, the UAE occupies first place in the indices of Social Cohesion, Efficiency in Government, Efficiency of Governmental Fiscal Policy, and Government and Economic Confidence. That’s not all. The UAE has been ranked the 14th happiest country in the world, and first among the Arab countries in the second UN World Happiness Report.”

”The positive words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai inspire confidence that more achievements are on the anvil. As he points out, “We will continue to make progress and will write a new history of achievements and excellence that will make our people happier and become a source of good for our nation and the whole world.” ”Sheikh Mohammed’s revitalising words set the tone for the future path of the nation: “We have never been, nor ever will be among those who rest on their laurels; nor those who obsess on their success; nor those who believe that the march forward will continue automatically,” The Gulf Today concluded.
