GCC drug registration meeting kicks off in Kuwait

KUWAIT: The 69th meeting of the Gulf Central Committee for Drug Registration (GCCDR) kicked off today under the patronage of Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Ali Al-Obaidi.

The meeting is a top priority for the GCC Health Ministers for it serves joint health programmes of the Council’s member states, said Assistant Under-Secretary of Technical Affairs in the Ministry of Health, Qais Al-Duweiri, in a statement, addressed to the conferees on his behalf by a ministry official, KUNA reported.

Since 1998, the GCC countries have been sharing a unified drug registration programme under the committee’s supervision, to ensure safety and quality of medicines, he said, adding the committee had issued a guide to monitor drugs post-marketing in its 52nd conference in 2001, to study their side effects, quality and report any bad medicines in coordination with pharmacies.
