Hamdan bin Rashid receives Bill Gates

JEDDAH: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and U.A.E. Minister of Finance, yesterday met with Bill Gates, Co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, on the sidelines of the Islamic Development Bank’s meetings in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, they reviewed a number of humanitarian issues and the charitable work carried out by the Gates Foundation in some African countries, especially Islamic states.

Mr. Gates commended the charitable and humanitarian activities carried out by U.A.E.’s charitable organisations in many of the world’s poor regions, pointing to the cooperation and coordination between his Foundation and Dubai Cares, which alleviates the suffering of unprivileged people in some African and Islamic countries.

Sheikh Hamdan also lauded the humanitarian and charitable giving implemented by the Gates Foundation, describing it as the largest charitable foundation in the world.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water, Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, and a number of officials, as well as the delegation accompanying Mr. Gates.
