Hamdan bin Zayed stresses UAE’s commitment to addressing refugee issues worldwide

ABU DHABI: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of U.A.E. Red Crescent Authority (RCA), has stressed the U.A.E.’s commitment to tackling the refugee issues through building the refugees’ capacities.

In his remarks on the occasion of World Refugee Day, which falls on June 20th, Sheikh Hamdan said that the U.A.E. plays a vital role in alleviating the refugee crises, addressing their repercussions on millions of people around the world, in addition to eradicating causes through supporting human development fields, as well as achieving security and stability in hot spots and areas of conflicts, thanks to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the initiatives of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

He added, “The U.A.E. early assessed the repercussions of poverty, injustice, marginalisation and conflicts expansion in addition to the growing refuge phenomenon, which triggered it to allocate share of its national income to develop dispute areas in the sisterly and friendly countries.” Sheikh Hamdan also called upon the international community to exert more efforts to combat the phenomenon, and shoulder its responsibilities to ensure better living conditions for the victims, adding that the U.A.E. is always keen on providing more care for refugees.

He also expressed U.A.E. government and people’s concerns about humanitarian catastrophes witnessed by refugees around the world, leading to deterioration of their conditions. Sheikh Hamadan noted that last year was the worst for the refugees due to intensity of armed conflicts in a number of African and Asian countries.
