IIRO distributes emergency aid to Uganda

JEDDAH: The International Islamic Relief Organization, IIRO, has distributed its first batch of urgent aid to Congolese refugees in Angola who wish to cross into Uganda to escape their volatile situation.

Ihsan bin Saleh Tayyib, IIRO Acting Secretary-General, said in a statement today that the distribution process began in conditions marred by many difficulties as refugees are in remote locations, which necessitated the delegation to use primitive means of transportation.

He added that the authority was able to access the areas and enable distribution of aid to two thousand families of at least five members.

He pointed out that the aid was in the form of food, blankets and hand ploughs, stressing that this aid will be followed by other batches.
