Khalifa Foundation distributes more aid to victims of snowstorm in Lebanon

ABU DHABI, 7th February, 2015 (WAM) — The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (Khalifa Foundation), in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Beirut, has started a new phase of the winter programme.

The programme, aimed to distribute aid among refugees and the affected people by the snowstorm, comes within the UAE Compassion “Tarahmu’ Campaign.

A source from the Foundation said that the campaign, which came in implementation to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and follow up of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to provide assistance to tens of thousands of the affected people by the snowstorm wave in most Lebanese areas.

The source also indicated that the foundation yesterday distributed aid to more than 1300 families in Tikrit, district of Akkar, as well as 400 other families in Bisri and Yarin which included food stuff and other necessary items, in addition to tents and winter clothing.

The programme also targets provision of aid to over 20,000 families which represents more them 100,000 affected persons by the snowstorm in mountains and inaccessible areas due to roads blockade because of the snow.

Beneficiaries extended thanks and appreciation to the UAE leadership, people and other philanthropist organisations, which had responded immediately to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa, stressing the UAE was and still a supporter of the underprivileged families across the world.
