Labour Ministry grants grace period of six months to settle labour card fines

DUBAI: The Ministry of Labour has granted a six-month grace period to settle fines slapped on the electronic labour cards over violations of the labour laws by paying AED1,000 each against a card between January 4 and June-end next year, to implement the resolution issued by the Cabinet in this respect.

Humaid bin Dimas Al Suwaidi, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry for Labour Affairs, said the grace period covers the electronic card applications not issued or renewed till the end of this December, about 100,000 applications submitted by 40,000 firms, representing 13 per cent of the total firms registered by the Ministry.

At a press conference held at the Ministry today in Dubai, he said that 95,000 electronic card applications were not renewed by the firms in accordance with the procedures in this respect.
