Maritime navigation in Kuwait on hold due to bad weather

KUWAIT, 8th February, 2015 (WAM) — Kuwait Ports Authority announced a halt of maritime traffic in the three ports of Shuwaikh, Shuaiba and Doha today due to bad weather in the country.

Kuwait News Agency, KUNA, quoted Deputy Director of Marine Operations Management in Shuwaikh Port, Captain Shaheen Al-Tamimi, as saying in a press statement, that the bad weather in the form of high wind speeds and dust caused the suspension of maritime traffic in the three ports.

He said that wind speed and lack of visibility constituted an obstacle to navigation to and from the three ports.

He explained that the work at the ports, according to the International Maritime Organisation Act stops if visibility reduces to less than three nautical miles.
