DUBAI, 5th February, 2015 (WAM) — Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, MBRF, today announced partnerships with DMI, Al Rais Travel Group and Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing for the Dubai International Programme for Writing’s ‘Writer Exchange’ category between the UAE and Japan.

The Dubai International Programme for Writing was launched under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, MBRF’s Chairman, in October 2013. As part of the ‘Writer Exchange’ category under the programme, two male and two female writers from the UAE and Japan are getting the opportunity to stay in each other’s countries to enable them to exchange ideas based on their respective cultures. On completion of the visits to the UAE and Japan, the writers will narrate their experience to their readers through works in Arabic or Japanese.

Commending the partnerships, Jamal bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, said, “We are thankful to all the sponsors and partners who have expressed their commitment to the cause of knowledge dissemination by coming forward to make the Writers Exchange category a reality. Writers Exchange is a major step towards strengthening the process of knowledge transfer and empowering young talent in the world. The partnerships will help achieve this objective and strengthen the cultural exchange between the UAE and Japan.” Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said, “Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing is proud to be a part of the Writers Exchange category of the Dubai International Programme for Writing. It is indeed a pleasure to begin the category by welcoming four Japanese writers to Dubai, which has always encouraged and nurtured the sharing of ideas and cultures. With a focus on the written word, Writers Exchange offers a fascinating way to discover new languages and cultural experiences. It is also a valuable opportunity to achieve deeper understanding of the long-lasting relationship between the peoples of the UAE and Japan.” Dhaen Shaheen, Director-General of the Publishing Sector in Dubai Media Incorporated, DMI, said, “DMI has consistently formed partnerships with national institutions to provide the best media coverage for the national activities in order to highlight the bright image of the UAE. DMI will provide all the support to Dubai International Programme for Writing’s ‘Writers Exchange’ category, especially for the Japanese writers who are visiting Dubai these days as part of the event. DMI is committed to provide maximum coverage to the activities of these writers.” Mohammed Jassim Al-Rais, Executive Vice President at Al Rais Travel Group, said, “In keeping with the UAE’s traditions and culture, Al Rais Travel Group is pleased to support all the activities of the Writers Exchange category. It is a source of pride for us to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about our country’s culture and that is why we have chosen to be a part of this initiative.” Dubai International Programme for Writing is one of the creative initiatives of MBRF which contributes to enriching the intellectual and literary movement in the UAE and the Arab world. At present, the programme includes two categories – Writers Exchange and Creative Workshops. However, there are plans to include more categories that will support young talents with the right environment and sponsorship initiatives. The programme will publish their work in Arabic and other languages in order to enhance the value of Arabic writing and elevate it to international standards.
