MBRF signs MoU with Bahrain Folk Poetry Society

DUBAI: Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF) and Bahrain Folk Poetry Society signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce the status of poetry, literature and culture in the Arab societies, and achieve fruitful cooperation through exchange of expertise in these areas.

The MoU was signed by Jamal Bin Huwaireb, Managing Director of MBRF, and Abdullah Bin Khalaf Al-Dosari, Deputy Chairman of Bahrain Folk Poetry Society, at the Movenpick Hotel in Bahrain.

Under this partnership, work will start on 10 poetry collections of young Bahraini poets, and various activities will be launched in the fields of poetry, literature and culture in both Bahrain and Dubai. It will also enable five talented poets from Bahrain to participate in the Dubai International Arab Writing Programme, one of the initiatives launched by MBRF to raise the intellectual and cultural capabilities of the community.

Huwaireb praised the role of Bahrain Folk Poetry Society in contributing to the realm of poetry in Bahrain and creating the right opportunities for poets to appear in local and regional forums. “This partnership with Bahrain Folk Poetry Society comes in line with MBRF strategy which aims to promote Arabic poetry in Arab societies. It also reflects our keenness to maintain sustained communication with various poetry hubs in the GCC to discover young poetic talents and develop their skills by organizing events such as poetry evenings and cultural activities,” he said.

Al-Dosari expressed appreciation for MBRF s major efforts to achieve productive partnerships between Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

“The U.A.E. has always been a key supporter of poetry, literature and culture in GCC, and the MBRF has been playing a key role in preserving popular tradition and raising awareness of literary and poetic works among the GCC s young people. The MoU will contribute to raising the standards of folk poetry in Bahrain,” he said.
