Mohammed bin Rashid issues decree setting up higher Legislative Committee in Dubai

DUBAI: In his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued a decree establishing the Higher Legislation Committee in Dubai. The committee will report directly to the chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

Under the decree, the duties and jurisdiction of the Dubai Government s Legal Affairs Department will be transferred to the committee.

The Legal Affairs Department will have to provide the committee with all the duties and responsibilities stipulated in this decree within a period of no more than three months.

The committee will be the only body responsible for all matters concerning legislation in the emirate of Dubai.

It will be responsible for drafting and reviewing local legislation and making the necessary suggestions and recommendations for updating legislation from time to time.

It will issue legal fatwas and provide legal advice to government bodies.

The committee will submit regular reports to the Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

The decree will be effective from the date of issuance and will be published in the official Gazette.
