NRC hopes to address dangers of drug abuse through awareness campaign

ABU DHABI: The National Rehabilitation Centre, NRC, today announced that in partnership with Abu Dhabi Police, a drug awareness campaign (which aims to educate the public on the risks and dangers of drug use) on treatment and rehabilitation will be launched next week to mark World Drug Day (International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking).

Dr. Hamad Al Ghaferi, NRC Director-General, said, “We find that World Drug Day is a chance for us to bring the community together to raise awareness of this major issue, how drugs affect family relationships, socio-economic status and most importantly, one s health.

“We recognise that drug abuse and rehabilitation is a social stigma, so we decided that if people find it difficult to come to us for help or to find out more about what we do, we ll go to them. We are taking this opportunity to give the public our support, and anyone who speaks with us does so in strict confidence.” Activities, which include showings of films and documentaries about the history of drugs, drug abuse and its harmful effects, will be open for the public between June 22nd and 26th at NRC stands which will be set up at the Marina Mall and Dalma Mall.

Dr. Al Ghaferi praised the U.A.E.’s efforts on combating drug use, under the wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the U.A.E. Armed Forces and with the continued support of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
