OIC Secretary-General welcomes Portuguese parliament resolution for recognition of Palestinian state

JEDDAH: The Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, OIC, Iyad Amin Madani, has praised the Portuguese Parliament’s adoption of a resolution calling on the government to recognise the State of Palestine.

Mr. Madani in a statement said that he considered the resolution a significant step consistent with United Nations’ resolutions which reiterate the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, including the sovereign independent State of Palestine with borders based on those of June 1967, and with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Secretary-General expressed his hope that the Portuguese government will recognise the State of Palestine, pointing out that it would support the legitimate Palestinian rights and maximise the potential to bring peace based on the two-state solution.
