OIC welcome European Parliament’s resolution on recognition of Palestine statehood

JEDDAH: Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the European Parliament’s adoption of a resolution supporting the recognition of Palestinian statehood and the two-state solution.

In a statement, OIC’s Secretary-General Iyad Ameen Madani, said that the European Parliament’s move would support the rights of the Palestinian people and contribute to enhancing international efforts aiming at putting an end to the Israeli occupation and establishing the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also commended the adoption of a resolution by Luxembourg Parliament calling on its government to recognise the state of Palestine, and stressed that these historic stances go hand in hand with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

Madani expressed his hope that “these significant resolutions would be catalysts for the governments to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and recognise the Palestine statehood, while reaffirming the OIC support for the decision of the State of Palestine to seek a UN Security Council resolution to set a timeline to put an end to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land.”
