Policing and Security Conference: Global Challenges and Local Solutions, starts in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday

ABU DHABI, 2nd November, 2015 (WAM) — Under the patronage of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, the Policing and Security Conference is scheduled to start on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi under the theme, ‘Global Challenges and Local Solutions’.
Taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ADNEC, the conference is hosted and organised by Rabdan Academy, a world-class and professional education institution, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and Charles Sturt University, Australia.
The two-day conference hosts a large number of police and security experts, Arabian Gulf and Arab delegations and experts from Australia, the United States and Great Britain, in addition to a number of experts and researchers from 20 other countries.
Held for the first time outside Australia, the event is considered a milestone for Rabdan Academy as it aims to promote a better understanding of safety and security challenges around the world, and provide a platform for experts and researchers to discuss innovation and excellence in policing, and policing education, development and research.
In highlighting the significance of the conference, Dr. Faisal Obaid Al Ayyan, Executive Vice President, said, “Rabdan Academy is proud to be hosting the Policing and Security Conference in association with Charles Sturt University and with its strategic partners, the UAE Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police.” He added that delegates, both local and international, will gain valuable insights into innovation and excellence in policing and security as well as have the opportunity to experience the exceptional culture and hospitality of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
He pointed out that the Policing and Security Conference Programme will bring together a wide range of International and regional expertise in the field. “There will be a number of world-renowned keynote speakers who will outline the recent developments and innovation in policing in the United Arab Emirates, the GCC and worldwide. Aspects of policing and security that will be explored in conference sessions will include police leadership, innovation, excellence and education,” Dr. Al Ayyan elaborated.
Key speakers at the Policing and Security Conference: Global Challenges and Local Solutions Abu Dhabi, include Sir Hugh Orde OBE QPM, who, following time as an operational Inspector and Chief Inspector, took command of the SW London Territorial Support Unit dealing with all public order issues across London. His career then moved into criminal investigation, leading the SW London serious crime teams and murder investigation unit. Currently, he serves as Chief Constable and President Association Chief Police Officers and Chief Police Aiser to Government on all Police matters.
The conference will also feature Senator Vernon White, a Canadian senator who was previously Chief of the Ottawa Police Service. As chief, he was responsible for community law enforcement in Canada’s national capital city. He was previously chief of police for the Durham Regional Police Service.
Professor Colin Rogers is also a keynote speaker at the conference. He specialises in Police Sciences, and is a former police officer who spent a considerable time in operational activity at the ranks of Constable, Sergeant and Inspector. He has been engaged in policing matters internationally, including working in such countries as Uruguay, Australia and Germany as well as throughout the UK.
Audiences will be inspired by the speech to be delivered by Rt. Hon. Lord Reid of Cardowan, John Reid, who is the most experienced Cabinet minister of modern times, having held more ministerial posts at Cabinet level than any other politician in recent history. In range of portfolios, and in breadth and intensity of change management across departments, his experience is unparalleled.
