Reem Al Hashimi heads UAE delegation in official visit to Rwanda and Uganda

KIGALI, 21st February, 2015 (WAM) — Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State has headed the UAE delegation in an official visit to Rwanda and Uganda. The visits are seen as being in the framework of enhancing the bilateral relations with the two countries.

The Emirati delegation included Khalid Al-Ghaith, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, and other senior officials from various departments in the country. Al Hashimi commenced her visit to Rwanda and met in Kigali with Paul Kagame, Rwanda’s President, who welcomed the visit.

Kagame expressed his satisfaction on the development of the cooperation relations with the UAE at the economic and political domains. He also expressed his appreciation to the UAE’s approach in the establishment of partnerships and relations with Rwanda in particular and Africa in general.

The Rwandan President called for enhancing Emirati investments in his country which enjoys one of the best investment environments in Africa.

During the meeting, Al Hashimi affirmed the UAE’s commitment to enhancing the bilateral relations with Rwanda, highlighting the economic and social achievements in Rwanda in various developmental fields.

Earlier, the UAE Minister of State held a meeting with Rwandan Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo in the presence of the two countries’ delegation.

During the meeting, the Rwandan side made a presentation on available the economic projects and investment opportunities in Rwanda in the energy, agriculture, transport and IT fields.

On her part, Al Hashimi emphasised the UAE’s keenness on developing the bilateral relations with Rwanda for the benefit of the joint interests to implement the directives of the wise leadership, which aim to build strong bridges of cooperation with the country’s friends in the Africa Continent. She added that the presented ideas and projects will be studied in order to be executed in the future.

In a related context, in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni Uganda’s President received Reem Al Hashimi and her accompanying delegation, praising the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and his country’s desire to attract the Emirati investments as well as increase the joint trade. He also brought to attention his country’s keenness on benefiting from the UAE’s pioneering experience in a number of vital sectors.

On her part, Al Hashimi expressed the UAE’s appreciation to the role played by Uganda and Museveni in supporting stability and security in Africa as well as facing challenges in some African countries. Regarding the bilateral relations, Al Hashimi underscored that Uganda enjoys natural resources and high potentials including young human resources which represent a priority for the UAE’s efforts aimed at boosting relations with the African Union.

Commenting on the bilateral relations, During the visit, an expanded meeting was held between the UAE delegation and a number of Ugandan departments and authorities in various sectors and discussed ways to enhance cooperation and joint investment between the two sides.
