Sharjah Business Women Council and UK Trade and Investment Group discuss cooperation and business opportunities

SHARJAH, 18th February, 2015 (WAM) — The Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC) recently hosted a meeting with a delegation of business women from the UK, as part of the trade mission of the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) group.

During the meeting, which was held at SBWC’s headquarters in the Executive Office of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, and Honorary Patron of the Sharjah Businesswomen Council, the two sides discussed business opportunities, as well as the working environment and facilities provided to businesswomen in the Emirate of Sharjah, and the UAE.

The meeting was attended by Ameera BinKaram, Chairperson of the SBWC, and a number of SBWC members, as well as Teresa Tideman, Mission Leader and CEO of Jacques Vert, Karen Williams, Deputy Director of UKTI, along with other experienced British businesswomen and directors.

Speaking at the event, SBWC Chairperson Ameera BinKaram called attention to the projects and activities undertaken by the Council with view to enhance the work situation for women in Sharjah.

She noted that these ventures would not have materialised without the immense support of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikha Jawaher, in addition to the overall positive support the plans received.

“The UAE has steadily become one of the most influential countries in the world with regards to women in business through offering professional women the ideal platform and opportunities to start, grow and expand their businesses,” BinKaram said.

The SBWC chairperson added, “Meeting with an elite group of British businesswomen grants us a valuable opportunity to engage with like-minded successful female professionals and explore new arenas for cooperation, attract more UK businesswomen to Sharjah, and create partnerships that allow Sharjah businesswomen to expand their businesses in the UK.” Teresa Tideman, leader of the UK Mission to Dubai, expressed her confidence in the success of the meeting. “Our aim today, and our goal for the future, is to ensure a win, a win for each and every active member of the business world.” She continued, “The positive response and insightful market information imparted at the ‘Women in Business Mission’ further confirms the potential of a strong and successful long-lasting business relationship between Sharjah and UK businesswomen, which will in turn strengthen the market sector for both the UAE and the UK.”
