Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture 2014 celebrations begin Sunday under patronage of Sharjah Ruler

SHARJAH: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture 2014 celebrations will kick off Sunday, with the attendance of a number of Sheikhs, ministers, prominent figures, media executives and artists from all over the world.

Earlier this week, Ministers, dignitaries, media personalities and artists from all over the world arrived in Sharjah this week for the premiere of the region’s biggest ever theatrical spectacular, “Clusters of Light.

The Higher Organising Committee and the Executive Committee for Sharjah’s Islamic Culture Capital 2014 celebrations have completed all arrangements for the reception of the emirate’s guests and ensure their comfortable accommodation in Sharjah’s leading hotels.

More than 500 journalists, broadcasters and media executives from around the world, along with local media representatives, will report on the ground-breaking event.

The monument of Sharjah’s Islamic Culture Capital and the new outdoor Al Majaz Amphitheatre were inaugurated today’s evening. The epical musical performance “Clusters of Light”, which narrates the greatest story in the human’s history, will be staged on the semicircular Roman-Style Theatre.

The epical performance tells the story of Islam, since the birth of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) to his death and presents the true image and pure essence of Islam.

It also carries a message and a gift from Sharjah to the entire world, of its various nationalities, faiths, ethnicities, sects and cultural backgrounds, inviting them to get to know the biography of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) and the true image of Islam, thus contributing to enriching the global intellects with cultural civilizations that serve and highlight Islamic culture among today’s and future generations. The Emirate of Sharjah seeks to provide a true picture of Islam, and its human values and noble message that promote peace and love.

“Clusters of Light” is the culmination of the vision of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah who ordained a high-ranking artistic work serving Islam, clarifying its tolerant truth and promoting its human values represented by justice, love and peace, yet a work to be recorded by history and engraved in memories of next generations.

The Executive Committee for Sharjah’s Islamic Culture Capital 2014 celebrations is planning to implement a lineup of projects, programmes and events, including 21 landmark heritage, tourism, cultural and urban projects, and more than 100 events in various parts of Sharjah throughout the current year. These projects complement the cultural manifestations and human heritage that chronicle Sharjah’s story of knowledge and science and promote its status and key role in enriching the global cultural landscape, serving and highlighting Islamic culture, to further be engraved in memories of present and next generations.

The unique and grand- breaking projects, which truly mirror the Islamic culture and Sharjah’s identity and affiliation, aims to highlight the greatness of Islamic culture and the dissemination of its knowledge and noble goals. These projects translate Sharjah’s approach, which is derived from the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan to promote Islamic cultural thought and spread its goodness around the world., The projects are distributed over new universities, monuments, Islamic parks, traditional markets, museums and libraries, as well as scientific and architectural edifices. All these projects will have a prominent role in serving Islamic culture, befitting generations to come and consolidating Sharjah’s position a capital of Islamic culture over time. They include Islamic Park and the monument of Sharjah as Capital of Islamic Culture.

A stellar crew of high-ranking artists and hi-tech cadres, including famous Arab and international artists as well as scholars of the life of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and experts in the field of large-scale theatrical production, are participating in this theatrical and musical production. Composed by highly talented Bahraini musician Khalid Al Sheikh, the performance includes an elite group of renowned Arab artists led by UAE artist Hussain Al Jasmi, Tunisian artist Lotfi Bouchnak, Egyptian artist Ali Al Hajjar and young Palestinian artist Mohammad Assaf, along with more than200 performers.

With the use of the latest technology and state-of-the-art sound and lighting, the spectacular show will remain in people’s memories forever.

The five performances will be staged at the new Open Al Majaz Amphitheatre with its premiere show taking place on Sunday, while the four subsequent performances will be held on March 31, and April 1, 3, and 4.
