Sharjah Ruler extends Ramadan telethon

SHARJAH: Following the success of a Ramdan charity telethon which raised AED14.8 million for Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, yesterday ordered the extension of Sharjah Media Corp.’s one-day fundraiser on Sharjah TV for one day.

During a call with the Al Khat Al Mubashar (meaning hotline in Arabic), a call-in show aired on Sharjah TV, H.H. Sheikh Sultan ordered the extension of the fundraiser for one more day in order to raise an additional AED5 million in support of humanitarian work and as a welcome to the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The telethon received wide popular response as the show received a large number of calls from viewers who offered their donations in support for underprivileged people.

On her part, Sheikha Jamila Al Qassimi, Director-General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services and Deputy Supreme Council for Family Affairs, said the generous donations reflect the commitment of U.A.E. society, including individual and corporate donors, with the underprivileged.

Sheikha Jamila also praised the support extended by H.H. Sheikh Sultan and his wife Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qassimi to the humanitarian efforts of the City.
