SHARJAH: H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Saturday, paid rich tributes to the Camp of Hope on its 25th anniversary and said two generations of disabled individuals have conveyed Sharjah’s humanitarian message to the world through their innovations.
In a statement on the occasion, H.H. Sheikh Sultan also praised Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS), organisers of the annual event, for their efforts to promote hope, empower the disabled and help integrate them into the society.
“The national and humanitarian message of the Camp of Hope is incorporated in its name and that is realizing the hopes of families and countries. It is a translation of the vision of the SCHS for spreading awareness about the rights of the disabled, integrating them into the society, investing in their capabilities and helping them contribute to the process of building and development.” H.H. Sheikh Sultan also praised the SCHS for its determination to empower the disabled, ensure their rights, develop their capabilities based on the firm belief in total equality with all other people.
He emphasised that treating the disabled as equal, and ensuring their rights must not be a result of a feeling of pity for them, but must be based on the firm belief that they are members of the society who are an important element in fashioning the future.
H.H. Sheikh Sultan also urged individuals and institutions to commit themselves to helping the disabled, based on the teachings of Islam and Arab authentic values.
