Speaking at the IDEX Defence Conference in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, he said, “All the leaders that I have met in my over three decades plus of public service, the leader I spent the most time with was Sheikh Zayed and I sat by his side and we would talk for hours, literally hours, and I found him to be imbued with wisdom, with humility and with humanity.” “I thought this is a man of great vision who could look into the future, and see what the UAE could be, from being a desert to what we see blooming today in this garden of spectacular beauty and capability. And I always felt that the apple has fallen very close to the tree.” He also conveyed words of thanks to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and said, “Sheikh Mohamed has, in fact, been preparing this country (UAE) for much greater things and we see that each and every time we come to this great country.” “The US and the UAE have worked together in terms of capability, and we want to reassure the UAE that we are with them and we want them to have the best and we will continue to seek the best as we move forward,” he added.

About IDEX, the former US Secretary said, “The best are here at the IDEX meeting and sharing information and trying to come up with strategies and tactics that will help us to sustain the lives and the civilization that we have built.”
