ABU DHABI: University students have been encouraged to become more active in charitable community work by Make-a-Wish U.A.E. and the Emirates Thalassemia Society, both of whom have now opened their doors to train willing volunteers.
Her Highness Sheikha Sheikha bint Saif Al Nahyan, Chair Person of the Emirates Thalassemia Society, said that it is important for students of both genders to become involved in voluntary services in their local communities and to participate in activities which will help develop their skills and prepare them for the real world of employment.
Her words of encouragement were expressed during a presentation that addressed students at the New York University in Abu Dhabi, which was also attended by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.
Dr. Essam Dohair, Medical Advisor at the Emirates Thalassemia Society, also presented an overview to help spread awareness of the disease and explained existing treatment methods for the condition.
