Sudanese president urges Emirati businessmen to increase investments in Sudan

ABU DHABI, 24th February, 2015 (WAM) — Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Beshir has invited Emirati businessmen to double their investments in the Sudanese markets, noting that the Sudanese Investment Forum will be held in Abu Dhabi to highlight investment potential and opportunities in Sudan.

Al-Beshir hailed the huge and distinguished achievements made the UAE led by its wise leadership, a model of urban development and diversified economy.

The Sudanese president was speaking during his meeting with Mohammed Thani Murshid Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Board members. The meeting was also attended by the Sudanese delegation accompanying al-Beshir, UAE Ambassador to Sudan, Hassan Ahmed Suleiman Al Shehhi and CEOs of Emirati companies investing in Sudan.

“The UAE investments play an instrumental role in the development process, especially the investments by Janan and Amtar companies,” he said, adding that the investment laws have been amended in Sudan to provide better investment environment for the UAE and Arab investors to help achieve Arab food security. He added that there are a number of projects that will be implemented soon to support the Arab food security project.

On his part, Al Rumaithi said that the UAE-Sudanese economic relations saw a remarkable growth over the last years, as Sudan has become one of the top Arab trade partners to the UAE. “Sudan was and still the favourite investment destination for the UAE companies, given available investment opportunities in the Sudanese market, where many of the UAE companies established successful investment projects and contributed to the overall economic development process in Sudan,” he said, pointing out that these investments covered agricultural, livestock, banking, industrial, hotels, construction materials and pharmaceutical industries sectors.

Al Rumaithi stressed that the existence of a sophisticated investment law in Sudan protects the UAE investments, helps to attract more investments, provides financial and legal guarantees as well as ensures an exemplary investment environment, which could contribute effectively to strengthening the Sudanese economy.

Sudanese Investment Minister, Mustafa Osman Ismail, presented a detailed demonstration about the investment environment and opportunities in Sudan, noting that the investment laws have been amended to provide more facilitations and guarantees to the Arab and foreign investors.
