Sultan amends civil service law of Emirate of Sharjah

SHARJAH: H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a decree No. 1 of year 2014 to amend law No. 5 of year 2001, on the civil service law in Emirate of Sharjah.

According to the decree, article 1 of law No. 1 of year 2001 shall be amended with the following: The female employee shall be granted a maternity leave with total salary for 90 days, and may be awarded two weeks before the expected date of delivery based on a medical report from a certified specialist doctor.

The female employee shall be given a continuous period for breastfeeding for one year after maternity leave at the beginning or end of working hours according to the following: a period of two hours a day for six months, and period of an hour a day for the second six months.

Maternity leave and annual leave or leave without pay up to a maximum of 120 days may be combined from the start of maternity leave.

A three-paid day paternity leave shall be given to an employee within a month of the date of child birth..

The Consultative Council shall be informed about this decree when it resumes session. This decree shall be effective from the date of its issuance, and the authorities concerned must implement its provisions.
