Sultan bin Zayed receives ambassadors attending heritage festival

ABU DHABI, 4th February 2015 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President’s Representative, has received the ambassadors of Arab and other countries who attended the 2015 edition of the Sultan bin Zayed Heritage Festival, taking place between 1-14 February in Sweihan City.

During the meeting at his palace in Nahil, Sweihan City, H.H. Sheikh Sultan had exchanges with his guests on heritage and its role in consolidating the cultural identity of society as well as facilitating the culture of dialogue between different societies.

The ambassadors expressed their gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Sultan for giving them the opportunity to get a first-hand experience of the heritage of the UAE and the whole region.

They stressed that the festival has established itself as an annual platform for highlighting the UAE’s heritage, traditions and popular sports, as well as for facilitating cultural interaction between peoples of different countries.

H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed also met with a visiting delegation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Hundreds of nationals, tourists and residents are still thronging the popular festival which hosts traditional camel races, beauty contests and a Saluki race. Besides the races and competitions, the public are being treated with an exciting line-up of heritage and entertainment programmes including traditional games, Yolla, falconry and Emirati cuisine and traditional Majlis.

Adding to the experience, visitors enjoy a traditional market, a heritage village and traditional activities every day in addition to a traditional souq and contests for handicrafts and horse riding. Furthermore, visitors can even expect prizes for attending the festival.

A heritage village set up at the racecourse will feature Rababa performers, pottery and souvenir exhibitions and performances by Bou Theib stables’ horsemen.
