TRA hosts Open Data and mGov Initiatives Workshop

DUBAI: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, hosted an Open Data and mGovernment Initiatives Workshop today at the TRA Dubai headquarters.

The workshop was lead by Simon Field, Executive Partner in Gartner Executive Programmes, alongside project overviews by the mGovernment team leaders. The IT industry veteran introduced Open Government Data and its core elements, emphasising the factors that determine its successful adoption in the UAE.

“This workshop was created within the framework of optimising the use of open data and several mGov’s premiere initiatives. We chose to engage representatives from federal ministries and local government departments by exposing them to our progress and proposed projects,” said Hamad Al Mansoori, Director-General, UAE mGovernment.

“We are pleased to have Simon Field be an integral part of our workshop. As an expert with over 31 years of experience in the IT sector, he has shared very interesting and compelling facts about the benefits and steps towards an operational Open Government Data,” he added.

For the remainder of the workshop, the mGov teams each discussed key initiatives, developed by the smart government division in TRA. An overview for the Single Sign On project was shown, highlighting the benefits to government entities, action plan and subsequent steps. Also, an overview of the mGov Data Strategy project was shared, along with a follow up on the team’s progress.

The workshop was then concluded with two demo sessions for the mSurvey system and Sharikna app.
