Two arrested for attempted ATM skimming in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Police has arrested two Eastern European tourists for attempting to install skimmers, small size electronic devices that can clone and steal bank customers’ account details and PIN codes of ATM cards, inside cash machines at banks the capital.

Officers from Abu Dhabi Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) caught the two suspects, both aged in their 30s, with four skimmers after they were spotted acting suspiciously around cash machines in the capital. More skimming devices were found by the at CID officers at the pair’s hotel room.

Director of CID , Colonel Rashid Borshid, urged the ATM customers to be vigilant and use SMS alert services that advise of cash withdrawals and other transactions, to frequently change their PIN codes and alert their banks about any suspicious withdrawals.
