UAE accomplishes 1st phase of Suqia Campaign in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA, 26th February, 2015 (WAM) — The UAE’s Embassy in Ethiopia, in cooperation and coordination with the Emirates Red Crescent, has accomplished the first phase of UAE Suqia Campaign in Ethiopia by drilling 10 wells providing drinking water for more than 120,000 unprivileged people.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the UAE embassy delegates, and a number of officials and a number of regional government.

On the occasion, Dr. Youssef Issa Hassan Al Sabri, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, noted the importance of the campaign in the Republic of Ethiopia and its role in promoting and supporting the country’s diplomacy and showing the kindness and generosity of the United Arab Emirates’ Rulers and people, especially since the campaign will include drilling 60 wells in different part of Ethiopia to provide clean drinking water for about half a million underprivileged people.

The UAE Suqia campaign was launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The campaign is to be implemented by digging wells and distributing water pumps and purification equipment in water-scarce regions.
