UAE on top of the world

Sharjah, 20th February, 2015 (WAM) — When it comes to achievements, the UAE repeatedly makes its citizens and residents proud with one new feat or the other, a UAE newspaper commented on Friday.

In its today’s editorial, The Gulf Today said:”The latest top marks come in the form of the UAE achieving the world’s highest score in compliance with international aviation safety standards, after an intensive audit through the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme.

What is most significant is that the UAE scored a success rate of 98.86%, which is the highest rate in history given by ICAO.

As UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum tweeted captivatingly, “From no roads four decades ago, UAE today has the world’s most aanced and safe airlines and flight routes. For our dreams, the sky is the limit.” The UAE always sets a tough task for itself and never rests until that is achieved. In this context, it is interesting to note that the Dubai International Airport was the world’s busiest for international passenger traffic last year, taking away that title for the first time from London’s Heathrow Airport, which has been running into capacity constraints.

A total of 70.5 million passengers passed through it last year, up 6.1 per cent from 2013, as the emirate’s trade and tourism industries boomed.

Heathrow hosted 68.1 million international passengers in 2014, up 1.2 per cent.

The tourist industry has for many years been an important part of an increasingly diversified economy and during 2014, the country has continued to strengthen its position as a top regional tourist destination.

With the Al Maktoum Airport, or Dubai World Central, at Jebel Ali also attracting more business, Dubai will soon become one of the world’s most visited cities.

There is no resting on laurels. The hard work and achievements will continue making the country a perfect model for the rest of the world to follow. The ICAO audit results come as a strong endorsement of the quality and standard of aviation in the country.

Excellent infrastructure and services have undoubtedly made the aviation sector in the UAE extremely attractive for international visitors.

Sheikh Mohammed’s tweet reflects the feeling of the entire nation: “Our aanced airports, airworthy planes, sound legislation and skilled staff made our aviation system the safest in the history of aviation. We will continue our strive to be the safest hub for facilitating trade, tourism, and economic exchange among peoples of the world.”
