UAQ Crown Prince briefed on EIAST’s mission

UMM AL QAIWAIN, 24th February, 2015 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Qaiwain, on Tuesday received Yousuf Al Shaibani, Director-General of the Emirates Institution for Aanced Science and Technology, EIAST, who briefed him on EIAST’s mission and its current and future programmes on space sciences and technology.

During the meeting, Adnan Mohammed Al Rais, Head of Business Development at EIAST, gave a detailed presentation on the achievements that EIAST has made so far, including the launch of DubaiSat-1 and 2, as well as EIAST mission to nurture scientific innovations and technological progress as part of its contribution to sustainable development in the UAE.

DubaiSat-1 is the first remote sensing satellite owned by the UAE which represents the country’s determination to possess aanced space technologies to fulfil the needs of scientific and technological research, as well as to provide up-to-date spatial and earth monitoring data that aids the holistic growth drive adopted by the nation.

Sheikh Saud praised the persistent efforts being made by EIAST to harness space technology and sciences to push forward the social and economic development in the UAE. He also lauded EIAST’s strategy to build a national creative and innovative generation of highly competitive professionalism and academic qualifications who can lead the UAE towards excellence and leadership in space technology.

EIAST was established by the Dubai Government in 2006 with the goal of promoting a culture of aanced scientific research and technology innovation in Dubai and the UAE, and enhancing technology innovation and scientific skills among UAE nationals. It is mainly involved in outer space research and development, satellite manufacturing and systems development, space imaging, and ground station services and support for other satellites.
