UN demands release, humane treatment of captured Jordanian pilot

NEW YORK: UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, last night called for the release of a Jordanian pilot being held captive in Syria by the terrorist organisation Daesh.

The Jordanian News Agency, Petra, reported that Stephane Dujarric, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, conveyed a statement from Ban Ki-moon asking the captors that the pilot be treated in accordance with international humanitarian law.

Dujarric also said that the Secretary-General is closely monitoring the situation, as well as the ongoing armed conflict in Syria, expressing his deep concern at the continuing violence across Syria, including the dropping of barrel bombs in populated areas.
