SHARJAH: As part of the festive atmosphere prevailing over the country, University Hospital Sharjah (UHS), marked the UAE’s 43rd National Day with an array of programmes and activities that were specifically designed for this glorious occasion.
The massive celebration was held at the UHS headquarters, decorated with UAE flags, in the presence of Abdullah Al Mahyan, Chairman of the Sharjah Health Authority and Board Chairman of UHS, Dr Abdul Aziz Saeed Al Muhairi, Deputy Chairman of the Board, and members of the Board of Trustees, Murad Haj Hamida, Michael Stroud, and Professor Hakam Yaseen, as well as a number of VIPs and guests.
The celebration began with the national anthem played by the Police Band, followed by welcome speeches and the release of balloons decorated with the colours of the UAE flag. Abdullah Al Mahyan and Michael Stroud, Chief Executive Officer of UHS, in addition to a number of senior physicians, medical and nursing staff and guests gathered to cut the National Day cake that signalled the beginning of the festivities.
The ceremony featured national songs and folk dances performed by schoolchildren participating in the national event. Dressed in their national costumes, the performers chanted traditional songs inspired by the merits and qualities of the country’s leaders and pride in the UAE’s achievements since the creation of the Union, as well as by the major development witnessed by the country in economic, scientific cultural fields and all walks of life.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Al Mahyan, Chairman of Sharjah Health Authority and UHS, said, “This beautiful country has indeed come far in the little over four decades since our founding fathers first took the visionary step to unite the emirates into one proud nation.” Al Mahyan went on to say, “The progress in the medical sector of the UAE and Sharjah in particular, the evidence of which is all around us, didn’t happen overnight, and couldn’t have happened without the visionary insight and directives of our leadership. This wonderful institution that is helping so many people today, owes its existence to the forethought and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who envisioned a place that would not only provide the people of Sharjah the best possible medical care, but that would also actively contribute to the growth of the medical community by training new generations of dedicated and professional physicians.” Michael Stroud, CEO of UHS, said, “National Day is one of the most important occasions and festivities that we celebrate in the UAE. I am pleased to say that the University Hospital in Sharjah looks at this special event from a different perspective and hence it seizes this opportunity to achieve greater success in discharging its noble duties that would serve the health sector and strengthen the UAE’s national gains. As we celebrate the 43rd National Day, we take this opportunity to renew our promise to the UAE’s leaders and citizens that we will exert every possible effort to fulfil our ambitions and aspirations, inspired by the spirit of the Union.”
