bodies of drowned immigrants were found on the coast of the Tunisian state of Sfax during the two days of Eid, according to a judicial source, today, Sunday.

A Spokesman for the Sfax court, Fawzi Al-Masmoudi, said that the bodies that were thrown out by the sea were found in the areas of Al-Amra and Jbeniana, and they are semi-decomposed.

Al-Masmoudi thought it likely to be immigrants from sub-Saharan African countries.

Record numbers of migrants crossed the Tunisian coast this year compared to previous years on their way to the nearby Italian coast, according to official and independent sources.

Spokesman for the Tunisian National Guard said that the Naval Guard units seized today and yesterday 93 immigrants in operations to intercept irregular immigration boats.

According to the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, which deals with migration issues, the number of drowned people has reached nearly 200 since the beginning of this year.

The Italian authorities said that more than 30,000 migrants arrived on the country’s coast during the same period.
